Solo 6+

             Don Johnston is a company that has been dedicated to working with individuals who have difficulty reading and writing.  Their goal is to ultimately change the lives of students who are struggling in those specific areas.  Through taking courses at College of Saint Elizabeth, I have become familiar with some of Don Jonhston’s programs that are available.  For example, Co Writer is a word prediction software that assists students who have difficulty spelling words correctly.  Students may be more willing to write assignments if the pressure of not having to worry about correct spelling was lifted, using this program.

            One product that is offered through Don Johnston which I believe should be utilized in all schools would be the SOLO 6+.  This is a compilation of their most popular assistive technologies combined into one easy to use software.  It includes, Read: Outloud 6, Co:Writer 7, Writer:Outloud 7 and Draft:Builder 6.  Schools should invest in this software for students due to the fact that it incorporates text to speech, word prediction, a word processor, and a graphic organizer.  This system can be utilized with a variety of grade levels and is easily accessible.  Personally, I feel that students who struggle to write would greatly benefit from using this software, which is also compatible with iPads.
